I am interested in AI art generators as tools for zeitgeist insight. For this project, I used the same four verbal prompts (briefly: an artist, an artist at work, a sculptor at work, a work of art) in 4 different generators (DALL·E, Midjourney, Deep Dream Generator, and DreamStudio), taking the first set of four images created from the prompt with zero additional adjustments and default settings. The results tell us something not only about the different images libraries used to “feed” these generators, but also about larger societal expectations surrounding art, artists and the creation of art.
