Tết is Vietnamese for Lunar New Year. On this day my family makes time to gather and celebrate the new year. We prepare and arrange flowers, fruits, sweet treats, bánh tét (sticky rice cake) and lì xì (red envelope with money) together to bring our family good luck and fortune for the coming year. My favorite tradition is to watch and listen when my family chúc (to give blessings for the upcoming new year) each other. When it is my turn to chúc, I always hear something new from my parents that I didn’t hear last year and it is always something I need to hear.
